Children ages 4 through fifth grade are invited to register now for the free 2017 summer reading program, “Build a Better World,” at the Jefferson public library.
During the months of June and July, children will build a mural, cardboard box city, Truffula Trees, incredible rocks, and paper sculptures. It’s all about teamwork, with each person adding his or her special talents to make a project that showcases everyone’s efforts.
One of the programs offered is about building a campsite, complete with hot dogs, s’mores, and stories around a campfire. Another program is about building character; participants will flood the library with kindness notes.
Throughout the summer, children will earn prizes, paperback books, T-shirts, pizza and ice cream certificates, Blank Park Zoo passes, and someone will win a brand new bicycle at the final party. Each week, children may attend a lunch and a movie program. Bring a brown bag lunch and drink and the library will provide the movie, popcorn, and pop.
The Blank Park Zoo will visiting with its amazing animals in June and “Vodville” comedian, Richard Renner, will bring his own special humor to the final party in July.
There’s a special challenge for boys and girls this year. Children who complete the challenge will be invited to a Building Teamwork Outdoor Obstacle Challenge event. “Just think water games, hopper balls, tug of war, and all kinds of outdoor activities…you won’t want to miss this party,” said children’s librarian Terry Clark. “We invite you to join us this summer and ‘Build a Better World’ at the Jefferson public library.”
This year’s summer reading program is FREE due to the generous sponsorship of Beta Tau Delta, Blank Park Zoo, Breadeaux Pizza, Dairy Queen, Fareway, Greene County board of supervisors, Home State Bank, Hy-Vee, Jefferson Elks Lodge, Peoples Trust & Savings Bank, Wells Fargo Bank, and the Friends of the Jefferson Public Library.
